Self-Guided Walking Tours

Customized walks to fit your schedule, abilities and desires.

Dan & Penny, owners of Inn Victoria, are well experienced at customizing walking routes specifically for people who want ultimate flexibility to schedule or abilities.  We will custom design the walking route to fit your needs.

  • Each walking route is on an unpaved / gravel road through the back country of Southern Vermont.
  • Walk to your own pace
  • Adjust the length of the walk as you desire, and we will accommodate a pick-up location that suits your desire.
  • Add-on amenities may include; dinner for two at Inn Victoria, facilitated driving tour of the region, special needs consideration.
  • All tours are self-guided and depart from Inn Victoria after a three-course gourmet breakfast.

Tell us what your desires may be:

  • Enjoy a waterfall
  • Experience the charm of a small New England village mid-way through the walk
  • Be still by a wilderness pond or lake
  • Take a dip in the stream
  • Keep the walk relatively flat
  • Pick me up at the Pub

You name it……

Although we have routes already outlined that fit the needs of most people, we listen to your desires and will customize to meet your needs.

Safety

Your safety is our most important consideration. With your permission, we will check on your status mid-way through the day and offer a ride to alter the route if for whatever reason that may be necessary.

Lowell Lake

 11 miles of slight hills

Start your walk from Weston Priory, the beautifully manicured and peaceful Benedictine monks’ community in Weston, VT. Walk the relatively flat valley floor to the village of Weston, home of the Vermont Country Store.  Enjoy the village and its gorgeous quintessential village green before moving on through the back-hill country, offering views of Magic Mountain Ski Resort and Vermont’s Green Mountains.  You are now in the heart of if all.  Walk past an active beaver house in a pond, to Lowell Lake where you may want to take an afternoon dip…..you won’t want to leave this beautiful, peaceful place.

Grafton Tavern

11 Miles of moderate hills

This route takes you from Inn Victoria to the Grafton Tavern in the village of Grafton. Following the route school kids once took to walk several miles from their farm homes to the one-room schoolhouse, you’ll cross the suspension bridge over the Williams River toward the back settlements of Chester and Grafton.  This hilly route will take you through some beautiful country settings, traversing two streams, some beautiful homes, ultimately entering into the village of Grafton.  The initial experience of walking into the village is reminiscent of entering the mysterious Brigadoon, a Scottish village that appears for only one day every 100 years.  We’ll pick you up at the Tavern when you are ready for a ride home.

Hamilton Falls

8 miles of relatively flat terrain

Start your walk along a very quiet stretch of back country headed toward Burbee Pond where moose have been seen roaming; bring your binoculars. Walk around the large pond and make your way through a scenic valley surrounded by Vermont’s Green Mountains, ultimately arriving at Hamilton Falls.  One of the tallest of Vermont’s waterfalls at 125’ forming three distinct pools.

Williams River Valley

4-10 miles of flat terrain

Enjoy Chester village walking along the Williams River Valley.  As you walk out of Inn Victoria’s front door toward the early 1700’s cemetery, the feeling of Currier and Ives quintessential New England village life, is truly freeing. Walk through the village depot where the original train station continues to take passengers on fall foliage tours, through the Stone Village of homes built in the 1700’s out of the glimmer stone from the nearby hillside, and on through the farm country of the Williams River valley.  With the river to your immediate right, your walk will eventually take you to the Bartonsville covered bridge.
