11 miles of slight hills
Start your walk from Weston Priory, the beautifully manicured and peaceful Benedictine monks’ community in Weston, VT. Walk the relatively flat valley floor to the village of Weston, home of the Vermont Country Store. Enjoy the village and its gorgeous quintessential village green before moving on through the back-hill country, offering views of Magic Mountain Ski Resort and Vermont’s Green Mountains. You are now in the heart of if all. Walk past an active beaver house in a pond, to Lowell Lake where you may want to take an afternoon dip…..you won’t want to leave this beautiful, peaceful place.
11 Miles of moderate hills
This route takes you from Inn Victoria to the Grafton Tavern in the village of Grafton. Following the route school kids once took to walk several miles from their farm homes to the one-room schoolhouse, you’ll cross the suspension bridge over the Williams River toward the back settlements of Chester and Grafton. This hilly route will take you through some beautiful country settings, traversing two streams, some beautiful homes, ultimately entering into the village of Grafton. The initial experience of walking into the village is reminiscent of entering the mysterious Brigadoon, a Scottish village that appears for only one day every 100 years. We’ll pick you up at the Tavern when you are ready for a ride home.
8 miles of relatively flat terrain
Start your walk along a very quiet stretch of back country headed toward Burbee Pond where moose have been seen roaming; bring your binoculars. Walk around the large pond and make your way through a scenic valley surrounded by Vermont’s Green Mountains, ultimately arriving at Hamilton Falls. One of the tallest of Vermont’s waterfalls at 125’ forming three distinct pools.
Williams River Valley
4-10 miles of flat terrain
Enjoy Chester village walking along the Williams River Valley. As you walk out of Inn Victoria’s front door toward the early 1700’s cemetery, the feeling of Currier and Ives quintessential New England village life, is truly freeing. Walk through the village depot where the original train station continues to take passengers on fall foliage tours, through the Stone Village of homes built in the 1700’s out of the glimmer stone from the nearby hillside, and on through the farm country of the Williams River valley. With the river to your immediate right, your walk will eventually take you to the Bartonsville covered bridge.
